As 2016 marks the 950th Anniversary of the battle of Hastings, the town of Hastings, on the South East coast, renowned for its history and heritage and as a centre of excellence for arts and culture, is all set to commemorate this important landmark in England’s history with a series of events throughout October.
As the roof of the Great Gatehouse of William the Conqueror’s Abbey has been opened during this anniversary year for the first time to visitors, take time to pause and reflect on the historical magnitude from this unique viewpoint. Experience the action first-hand at the special anniversary re-enactment of the Battle on the 15th and 16th October, and as you soak up the medieval atmosphere of the encampments and displays, you could even try your hand at archery!
