BECKFOOT RETREAT is a Georgian farmhouse offering peace and tranquillity beside Ennerdale Water in the Lake District National Park, metres away from the Coast to Coast route. It’s furnished with a mix of antiques and retro finds, bedrooms are spacious with soft fluffy towels, lotions and potions provided. An organic vegetable garden provides the kitchen. Dinners and packed lunches are offered by arrangement. Ennerdale Valley is a hikers paradise and near a wide range of activities – riding, kayaking, steam train, distillery tour, Wordsworth House to name a few.

Take Exit at Junction 40 on M6 for Penrith, Keswick and A66. Take the A66 towards Keswick and on to Cockermouth. Pass all turnings to Keswick. After approx 30 miles you will come to a large roundabout just outside Cockermouth. Take the left exit on to the A5086. After 5 miles look out for a large brown and white sign for Lamplugh with a ‘Rose Tour’ sign underneath it. After the sharp bend take the left turn to Lamplugh immediately after it – signed Lamplugh Church and Lamplugh Green. Go through Lamplugh and down the hill. At the bottom of the hill turn left by a caravan site signed Croasdale and Ennerdale Lake. Follow this road for approx 2.5-3 miles and you will start down a steep hill with hairpin bends. At the T junction at the bottom turn left. immediately passing through the hamlet of Croasdale – a cluster of converted stone barns. Sharp right bend amongst the barns. Continue about 3/4 mile, pass a farm on your right. DO NOT go down the road marked ‘UNSUITABLE FOR MOTOR VEHICLES’ road. (if you come via Ennerdale Bridge village the Sat Nav voice will tell you to - but it is only 5ft wide and lined with stone!!) Another 1/2 – 3/4 mile, turn right down track marked ‘Beckfoot’ and ‘Mireside Farm’ The first house down the track is BECKFOOT RETREAT B&B. Please park at right angles to the fence in front of the big barn.
