South west Scotland is often passed by as visitors head for the Highlands but has plenty to offer in its own right! We think it’s a bit like Cornwall without the crowds! It really is worth spending a few days here (or more if you have the time of course!) to explore the variety of scenery from dramatic coastlines to forests and hills. There’s plenty for walkers, with or without a canine friend, but also for cyclists, mountain bikers and gardeners as well as those just looking for peace and fabulous views! Transport links are excellent via the A75 from Dumfries or the A77 from Ayr and Glasgow and take you along the beautiful Solway and Ayrshire coastlines and inland to the Galloway Forest Park. Ferries run to and from Northern Ireland from Cairnryan. The railway line runs from Stranraer to Glasgow and is a picturesque journey well worth making.
