Following a bid submitted last year by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Lake District National Park has been awarded the prestigious status of becoming a World Heritage Site, joining an elite group of just over 1000 World Heritage Sites worldwide, including the likes of Yellowstone National Park, the Great Barrier Reef and the Great Wall of China. The benefits of this award will be far-reaching for local businesses, tourism and farming.
