It is no surprise that Beatrix Potter fell in love with the beautiful countryside surrounding her childhood holiday home, Hill Top Cottage, scenic landscapes and places that inspired the wealth of characters such as Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck and Mrs. Tiggywinkle, much loved by generations! Dove Cottage near Grasmere was home to one of our best-known poets WilliamWordsworth. He lived therefor nine years with his sister Dorothy, wife Dora and three small children.
Wordsworth described this humble cottage and garden as ‘’the loveliest spot that man hath ever found’’.
