With Lockdown in full swing, many of us are indulging in some escapism ‘viewing’ with Netflix’s Bridgerton proving to be a popular choice. With that in mind, we thought we would take a look at some of the magnificent properties featuring in this period drama in the hope that we can visit them soon…!

Castle Howard, North Yorkshire (Clyvedon, The Marital Home of Daphne and the Duke of Hastings)

Castle Howard is no stranger to being a top choice for television and film location, with many still associating it with the 1981 TV production of Evelyn Waugh’s novel Brideshead Revisited and more recently ITV’s ‘Victoria’, so it is no surprise that this magnificent property is once more back in the limelight as the marital home of Daphne and the Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton. Home to the Howard family for over 300 years, building work originally began in 1699, but took over 100 years to complete and spanned the lifetimes of three Earls. Situated in the rolling Howardian hills of North Yorkshire and set in almost 1000 acres of gardens and parkland, it is renowned as one of the great palaces of Europe.

Ranger’s House in Blackheath, London (The Bridgerton Family Home)

Hoping to re-open in April 2021, Ranger’s House is a stylish Georgian Villa on the boundary of Greenwich Park and Blackheath and home to The Wernher Collection – one of the greatest surviving private art collections in Europe. The property was built in the 1720s for a naval captain. Its residents included the 18th century politician Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield who used it as his summer retreat and it was occupied by the Rangers of Greenwich Park for 180 years.

Wilton House, Salisbury (The Duke of Hastings’ Mansion)

Hoping to re-open Easter 2021, Wilton House, home to the 18th Earl and Countess of Pembroke, provides a great day out for all the family. The splendid house showcases a world-famous art collection including the works of van Dyck, Pieter Brueghel, Rembrandt van Rijn and Richard Wilson. Situated in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, there are over 22 acres of landscaped parkland with water and rose gardens to be explored.

Badminton House, Badminton Estate, Gloucestershire (Lady Danbury’s House)

Home to the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort, Badminton House primarily remains a private family home, but private tours of the House and Gardens can be arranged. Visited by Royalty over the centuries, including Charles II, William of Orange on his return from the Battle of the Boyne and Queen Mary, wife of George V stayed there for much of World War II, guest of her niece, the Duchess of Beaufort.

So as we look ahead with cautious optimism to better times, we hope that we shall all be enjoying the freedom to travel and explore later this year and our B&Bs are looking forward to the day they can open their doors once more!
