To many of us the news coverage of the floods of December 2015 is but a dim and distant memory, but for the people of York the impact has been huge. We are pleased to announce however that the much-loved Jorvik Viking Centre, having suffered devastating damage, is finally set to re-open on 8 April 2017 following an incredible effort that has included fund-raising and a total re-build.
Located on the actual excavation site of the Viking city of Jorvik, the archaeological discoveries made helped shape the amazing reconstruction of Viking life in York during the 10th century brought to life at the Jorvik Viking Centre.
And to celebrate the ‘return of the Vikings’, Coppergate Square in the heart of York will be hosting two days of Viking-themed activities to commemorate this special re-opening weekend.
