Somerset, in the South West of England, is a special county of beauty and contrasting landscapes, steeped in history and legend, just waiting to be explored…From the stunning scenery of Exmoor National Park, the unique West Country fenland of the Somerset Levels with the striking Glastonbury Tor set in its midst (said to be the Avalon of Arthurian legend), to its breath taking coastline, seaside resorts and great market towns, believe it or not, we are only scratching the surface! Of course it wouldn’t be Somerset without mentioning cheddar cheese and cider!
So without further ado, here’s a selection of upcoming events taking place in Somerset this summer:-
West Somerset Railway- Hestercombe Express Enjoy a trip on the West Somerset Railway (check website for dates), as it travels through the spectacular Quantock Hills and along the Bristol Channel Coast, passing through various historic sites along the way.
19 August- Pride and Prejudice– Dunster Castle. Chapterhouse Theatre will be performing the much-loved classic, Pride and Prejudice in the dramatic grounds of Dunster Castle.
26-28 August – Bowlore Medieval Weekend, Bishops Palace, Wells For something different, enjoy a fascinating display of activities including longbow, crossbow, historical talks and a medieval tented encampment.
3 September – Rare Breeds 100 at Haynes International Motor Festival, Sparkford, Nr Yeovil. A great opportunity to view some rare vehicles and see them in action on the test circuit.
8 September – Glastonbury Abbey: Night at the Abbey http://www.glastonburyabbeyshop.com/view_event.php?event=1000052
Enjoy a celebration of light and music in the dramatic setting of the Abbey.
10 September –Crosville’s Bus and Steam Rally, Helicopter Museum, Weson-Super-Mare. Jump on board this popular vintage rally of classic buses.
